HOW TO SELECT THE PROPER EXTERNAL LAP
EXTERNAL LAPS should be shorter than the length of the
part being lapped. When lapping a cylindrical part with lands, the
external lap should be long enough to span as many lands as possible to
prevent rolling edges. STANDARD EXTERNAL LAPS are manufactured
slightly over-size to allow for clearance and can be tightened to the
appropriate diameter with the EXTERNAL LAP HOLDER.
